St. Croix is steeped in history. The Danish colonial towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted feature some of the most beautiful architecture in the Caribbean. There are historic forts in both towns and there are more than 100 sugar mills still standing on the island. Several great houses and museums are open to the public and the lovely botanical gardens were built around historic ruins.
